Kolkata Knight Riders had done everything right from scoring 21 runs of their innings last over, to Agarkar bowling a tight last over conceding just 7 runs. But it seems bad fortune continues to haunt Kolkata Knight Rider’s team, this time with fielding. The KKR fielders with butter fingers could not hold on to anything that was offered.

KKR winning the toss elected to bat first. They had a steady start and Bredon McCullam under heavy pressure tried his best to hang around. His 19 runs took 31 balls consisting of a solitary four. Brad Hodge came to the rescue of the KKR to notch up his second consecutive fifty of the tournament. His 70 runs coming of just 43 balls and well supported by Ganguly and Van Wyk, KKR could manage a healthy total of 153 which included a 21 run last over.

Kings XI Punjab started their chase confidently notching up 81 runs in first 10 overs. They managed it by stringing important partnerships. Firstly, Katich and Sohal contributed 43 runs and then Yuvraj joining Katich for 33 runs; finally, Yuvraj and Jayawardhane added another 32 runs before Yuvraj departed at a crucial phase leaving Punjab to score 45 runs of 35 balls. Jayawardhane (52) and Irfan Pathan (19) avoided further embarrassment to the Punjab team and took them to safety with a last ball single. The match was fought till the last ball thanks to some inspired bowling by Agarkar whose 18th and 20th over cost 7 runs each; commendable effort under the high-intensity conditions.

Man of the Match: Mahela Jayawardhane
