Delhi piles on Kolkata’s agony !
Winning is a habbit, so is losing. This seems to be apt for the Kolkata Knight Riders. Delhi piled on kolkata’s agony and in the process reached top of the points table. With this loss Kolkata team needs a miracle and some disatrous play from other teams to reach the last four. This seems most unlikely and probably all doors have been shut down for the most celebrated IPL side.
Kolkata Knight Riders had done well to take the score past 150-run mark after winning the toss and electing to bat first. They got onto a blistering start with captain McCullam breaking the jinx and scoring a quick 35. The first wicket partenrship yielded a productive 58 runs. After his departure MN van Wyk eased through the Delhi’s bowling. Dirk Nannes was a big disappointment with his 4 overs going for 49 runs. It was controlled bowling from Ashish Nehra and Amit Mishra, looking to catch the eyes of the selectors; that helped check the Kolkata Knight Riders total. Wyk finished with 74 runs and thus Kolkata could set a competitve target of 155 runs.
With a target of 155 Delhi came out to bat with Warner partenering the stand-in skipper Gautam Gambhir. It was not the mere batting brilliance of the Delhi batsmen which took them through to the target, it was some pretty poor fielding by the Knight Riders that eased the chase. Gambhir looking for some runs this season was dropped twice and a wrong umpiring decision going in his favour scored 71 runs. He was supported wonderfully well by David Warner(36) and in-form TM Dilshan(42). The Delhi team reached the target steadily with 1 over remaining. Kolkata could not cash in on the chances offered and brilliant two overs bowled by M Karthik which together yielded only 5 runs. Kolkata was destined to win indicated by dropped catches, poor umpiring decisions, edges not carrying to fielders.
With this win Delhi has 10 points and tops the points table.
