Gayle said he preferred T20 to Test cricket and yesterday he just showed us ,why ? when he scored 88 off just 50 balls and helped Windies Storm past Aussies. On the other hand despite Aussies repeated insistence of having a good squad and being in best shape Aussies were not comfortable with the new shorter format of the game. Which was evident when Australia lost two wicket in the very first over, both Watson and Pointing going for duck in Jerome Taylor’s bowling .Things got worse for Aussies when Clarke fell for Edwards scoring just 2 runs in the fourth over.At this stage they were struggling at 3-15 after 3.3 David Warner rescued them with a responsible 63 of 53 balls .Aussies managed a decent score of 169 with contributions from Haddin, David and Michael Hussey combined with some bad fielding by the Windies.
Windies innings on contrast has seen 133 run opening wicket stand between Gayle and Andre Fletcher.Chris Gayle’s breathtaking 88 off just 50 balls _ featuring four towering sixes most of them deposited deep in the stands including one off bowler Brett Lee that went over the top of the pavilion and out of the largest ground in England ,Gayle took 27 runs off a Bret Lee’s over. Lee’s four overs cost 56 runs .At the other end Andre Fletcher made an impression supporting Gayle with 53 from 32 balls his strike rate at the 165.They provided with 133 for the first wicket in only 11.3 overs.Which saw their side reach victory target of 169 with more than four overs to spare.
Australia has to win their next league match against Sri Lanka to reach super 8’s.
