Gayle’s floody knock takes Riders through !!!
Kolkata breaks the Jinx
Chris Gayle’s heavily flooded knock of 44 in 26 balls with 4 sixes and 2 fours gave the
KolkataKnight Riders their first victory in IPL-2. He was well supported by captain McCullam(21) and Hodge(10 n.o). Gayle was fortunate to be dropped twice and Punjab had to pay for the costly misses. The Kings XI Punjab could not recover from the floody knock as it was immediately followed by rain. The KKR scored 79 runs in 9.2 overs for the loss of one wicket. This was enough to ensure the victory as rain curtailed further play. KKR won the match by 11 runs with D/L method coming into play. It was a forgettable day for the young yusuf abdullah whose 2 overs cost 20 runs.
Earlier, Kings XI Punjab scored 158 runs in their allotted 20 overs. Though there wasn’t any single key performance in the batting it was a team effort built on partnerships. Yuvraj, Jayawardhane, Sangakara and Irfan Pathan played handy knocks to ensure a competitive total. The innings initially hit a roadblock with ganguly’s double strike with the ball. The veteran succeeding in proving his worth to the team.
With this victory KKR gained 2 points wheras KXIP remains at 0.
