Gilchrist’s onslaut puts Deccan Chargers in finals

Gilly is a true match winner he played crucial knocks for Australia many times including the two world cup finals , justifying the match winner tag Gilly played yet another crucial knock but this time for Deccan Chargers in Semi finals of IPL 2009 season against Delhi Daredevils.His 85 runs of 35  balls is one of the best innings in the IPL and T20 format of cricket.

Delhi with highest points in the league matches were clear favourites going into the match.But the Gilly’s blitzkrieg innings upset the Delhi Daredevils and put Deccan chargers in the Finals.

The match started with Gilchrist winning the toss .Gilchrist asked Delhi to bat first a decision many doubted as it was tough to chase under lights.Sehwag got his wish of batting first despite loosing toss.DD opened with Ghambir and David Warner accompanied him instead of Sehwag.Ryan Harris bowled the first over for DC which turned out to be a dream over for him a double wicket maiden,he scapled Ghambir and Warner.A very bad start for DD.After both the openers were back in the pavilion Sehwag and Dilshan took the attack to the opposition and shared a 85 run partnership between them for the 3rd wicket before Sehwag got out at 39 of 31 balls.After Sehwag’s dismissal DC pulled back things and rescrited DD for 153.Dilhan played well for his 65 runs of just 51 balls.

DC’s innings started with Gilly facing  Dirk Nannes in the first over ,Gilly hit nannes for 5 consecutive boundaries of the very first over scoring 21 runs of it.Ashih Nehra bowled a good second over giving away just 3 runs and got out Gibbs for Knot. Gilly was in great form ,fours and sixes flowed off his bat. DC were 56\1 in four overs. Gilchrist reached the fastest fifty of the IPL in just 17 balls.Sehwag came on to bowl for the first time in the tournament  and was taken for 25 runs in that over which included three consecutive sixes hit by Gilly.Amith Mishra the talented leg-spinner struck in the 10th over Gilly was out at 85 of 35 balls just one ball before the strategic break ,but that was too late ,more than half of the DC’s job was done by then .With only 52 runs required of the last 10 overs it was just matter of time before the Chargers completed the formality .Symmomds,Suman and Rohit Sharma sealed the deal.
