Spectacular opening cermony marks the start of World Cup 2011 !!!
World Cup 2011 got of to a spectacular start at Bangabandhu stadium in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina declared the competition open amid the spectacular show of colour and light. The captains of 14 teams arrived in the tricycles with wide cheers from the spectators. This is easily the best opening cermonies for a cricket world cup . Bangladesh may be the minnows in international cricket but their spirit and enthusiam was typical of the sub continent fervour.
The matches kick off from 19th with Bangladesh facing co-hosts India. India would remember what bangladesh did to them in the last world cup. They would like to inflict a crushing defeat and avenge the terrors of past. On the other hand, bangladesh would take inspiration from the 2007 world cup and also from the home crowd to surprise the Indians.
The world cup lasting for overĀ one month, will have 49 matches played across India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. The final is scheduled for 2nd April at Wankhede, Mumbai. The world cup is largely anticipated to be the fuel for the future of ODI’s. In the backdrop of hugely popular 20-20 format the relevance of ODI’s has been questioned quite often. This mega event could prove them wrong. Going by the crowd turnoutĀ during the two practice matches India played, the World Cup is definately going to be memorable and successful event.
