The birth of IPL has its roots from club football premiership leagues across different countries of Europe. The home away concept taken from them and modified the winner deciding factor to semifinals and final playoffs where as in different premier leagues which are played through out the season are decided on points basis.
The shorter format in cricket which promises to take cricket to its next level has started with the birth and success of IPL and other domestic t20 leagues. The club concept initially takes some time to gel in but once it takes place there are no leaps and bounds for the club cricket, we may even see consequences comparable to football where international games are at scarce only world cup every 4 years unites national teams in a contest.
Our cricket boards now even copied the champions league concept of UEFA which is worlds highest paid club cricket tournament with 100 players from 12 clubs across 7 countries the winner takes away 2.5million USD though the figures very less compared to club football tournaments but sure shows great potential to improve.
